Queen Califia's Magical Circle          Escondido,     CA

Located inside the Iris Sankey Arboretum in Kit Carson Park is the most random place I have ever seen....As you hike along a very easy trail you come across thee most colorful and trippy display of art!!  Niki DeSaint Phalle's last masterpiece is hidden away for only the curious or lost to find...  Varieties of glass and polished and tumbled stones create this work of art.... You enter through a black, white and mirror tile maze... Once finding your way you enter into the court yard which is filled with many different totem poles, all which have meaning....  It is so detailed and so cool to look at up close and from afar...Admission is free and for more info on her and this piece check out the website.. www.queencalifia.org

Free Flight Birds       Del Mar        CA

I am not  sure how I discovered Free Flight but what an awesome place!!!  When you walk in you notice some of the birds are in cages and some are just there hanging out on their perches waiting to be talked to, pet and fed...Some are very nice and will climb on your arm if asked too and others just liked to be looked at..  The ones in cages can sometimes be taken out and held if they are feeling up to it... The organization rescues exotic birds and finds homes for them...When people get an exotic bird they don't realize the bird can out live them!!  You can purchase a cup of food to feed them however most of them were full the times I have been there, but it is fun to try and feed them...  Admission is only $5.00 for adults and $2.00 dollars for kids!! What a great deal for a really unique experience!!
